Banned Books at Ashland High School

As of the 2015-2016 school year Ashland high school will be banning the 10 following books for the reasons indicated.

  • The Divergent series by Veronica Roth. This books shows a girl fighting against society which we do not want to strengthen.
  • The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. This novel features teenage sexual activity.
  • The Perks of Being a Wall Flower by Stephen Chbosky. This novel shows under aged drug and alcohol use.
  • The Dictionary. The Dictionary contains many swear words which can be very offensive.
  • A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking for unethical context
  • The Cat in the Hat by Dr. Seuss. This children’s short story which includes misrepresentation of animals.
  • Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell because of child abuse and racism.
  • If I Stay by Gayle Forman. This novel displays death of family members.
  • Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak for encouraging rebellion.
  • Winnie the Pooh by A. A. Milne because these short stories show nudity.

Many students at AHS may find these reasoning’s unfair but we encourage you to trust the system that it is for your own good.
