If you like to sing, come and sing with the Ashland High School Choral Program. Holly Johnson, the choir director and one of the French teachers, is hopefully going to expand the choir program.
Currently AHS has two choirs, Mixed Choir and Show Choir. Mixed Choir is the stereotypical choir people hear about. Students focus on learning how to read, sing, and perform multiple genres of music within a choir. Show Choir is song and dance; students learn how to add choreography to a variety of songs. Show choir has preformed the following this year: Time Warp Again, Rocking Robin, James Bond Theme, and Rockin’ Pneumonia and the Boogie Woogie Flu.
This coming year Johnson is hoping to expand to five choirs; Honors Choir, Show Choir One and Two, Touring Choir and Spring Singers.
Honors Choir: Honor Choir is by audition OR a full year of another choir (shown below) at AHS. This Choir will take an advanced approach to song and dance. The choir will count as an honor class.
Show Choir: Show Choir is song and dance; students learn how to add choreography to a variety of songs. Show Choir One is a entry level show choir, Show Choir Two is a advanced level Show Choir that requires at least one semester of Show Choir One.
Touring Choir: Touring Choir is similar to Spring Singers (shown below), but this class will only learn seasonal songs and perform at different venues. This is a semester class, and will most likely be followed with Spring Singers.
Spring Singers: Spring Singers is an entry level choir that sings a lot of different types of music. Students focus on learning how to read, sing, and perform multiple genres of music with in a choir. This is a one semester class and often will fallow the semester of Touring Choir.
All classes count as one fine arts/performing arts credit per- semester. Multiple choir classes may possibly fit into a student’s schedule. The classes may be taken more then once to gain credits. No experience is necessary except for Honor Choir!
AHS performing arts is well known and is asked to perform at special events. When necessary, Johnson forms a specials choir to meet the needs of the event. These choirs practice out side of class time. These choirs are not for graduation credit but can be put on a college resume.
