AHAA (Ashland High Arts Advocates) is a program that helps fund arts and entertainment at AHS. The parents who are a part of AHAA raise between $10,000 and $15,000 each year. Two-thirds of that money goes to help art classes and the remainder of the funds goes to “Summer Enrichment Scholarships” which gives scholarships for 20 to 25 art students to help pay for summer lessons and camps for art. All of the money comes from community donations.
However, not many parents are showing up to the meetings, which leaves fewer parents to raise money. With an inadequate amount of money for AHAA, it is possible that it could raise less money. Ashland is one of a few schools that possess a booster club for the arts.
Advocates meet every third Tuesday evening of each month in the band/orchestra room. AHAA is holding an election for new officers on June 7 at 6:30 P.M. For more information, AHAA has a Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/#!/arts.advocates) where information about meetings and general news about fine and performing arts at AHS can be found.
