The Rogue News

Liam Hokama, Writer

Some people are sure of exactly what their future holds. Others enjoy sampling a variety of experiences. Liam Hokama employs a bit both outlooks on life. Now a sophomore at Ashland High School, Hokama was cast as the lead in the upcoming theater production “Bright Star” after being hesitant to join the program only a few months earlier. Theater and choir have played an important role in his life from an early age, and Liam said he plans to pursue singing throughout high school. Combining his passion for the subject with the prospect of a strong college application, Hokama plans to practice singing both in and outside of school. His other interests and post-high school aspirations include attending a prestigious college or university like Stanford and pursuing business and economics. Liam was taught the importance of investing at a young age from his father and several family friends. He has already opened a custodial investment account and prides himself on being economically-conscious about his future.

If it weren’t for COVID, Hokama planned to work at his father’s start-up last summer. Travel plans to Italy and Croatia were also cut short due to quarantine. However, the lockdown provided Liam with more time to play games like Overwatch and continue researching the intricacies of investing. In Rogue News, Hokama hopes to use his middle-of-the-road political perspective to write pieces that compare and contrast the extreme beliefs on either side of a given issue. Hokama is excited to pursue the business and economic track at AHS and acknowledges that he is “very grade conscious”. The future is very bright for this budding economist.
