Tyler Poland, Editor
Tyler Poland has just one wish for this school year: to get one last bit of in-person class. After moving to Ashland the summer before his freshman year, Poland isn’t ready to leave without saying a proper goodbye. He remembers fondly his first off campus lunch, La Casa with some new friends, and says that bus rides home from baseball games are some of his favorite high school memories. Now as a senior, with an end to his time at AHS fast approaching, he wants just a few more memories like that. In particular, Poland will miss his friends on the baseball team. Even from a young age, when he first started playing baseball back in Santa Cruz, he knew that his favorite part of the game was bonding with the team. Fast forward to now, he holds a leadership position on the team, and credits it with helping to shape his relationships. But the lessons Poland has learned extend beyond the baseball diamond, he also says his move helped to shape him. Coming to a new city with no friends, was a strange experience for the out-going Poland, but one that helped him mature. “I had to listen more,” he says, a skill that helped when he was a counselor at Fresh Start and as an editor of The Rogue News. Despite his fun-loving sprit, Poland knows the value of a good work ethic. Calling his dad one of his biggest role models, Poland admires both his hard work and his thoughtfulness. He also credits Steve Irwin for reminding him to show respect and teaching him to value of nature. Along with nature, baseball and spending time with friends, Poland loves playing Overwatch, and would love to play professional e-sports. But for now, he’s just focused on enjoying his time here.
