There are many rumors about the mountain closing due to no snow. However, rumors are just rumors. They aren’t accurate information. Here are the facts about whether or not it’s going to open. If it does close, then it is unlikely that it will close forever. Back in February of 1977, 37 years ago, the mountain didn’t open until the 17th, showing that the mountain has been through a hard drought before. If it could open then and still be open today, then don’t doubt its ability to stay open after this drought has passed.
“At this point, any snow makes us happy.” Kim Clark says. Clark, Mt. Ashlands general manager, isn’t skeptical of whether the mountain will open or not. The huge storm we had recently covered the valley floor and snowboarders did something they haven’t been able to do in a long time and for some, ever. They street boarded and we amazed at how much fun it was. Their opening and closing dates are as follows: Opening: December 06, 2013, Closing: April 13, 2014.
If the rumors are true and the mountain closes forever, what does this mean for the workers? The mountain closing will force many people to lose their jobs. This drought could be a lot worse than the people of Ashland predicted if the mountain closes, but that is unlikely to happen.
