Led by Steen Fredrickson and Eric Carlson, Ashland eased past Dallas 8-2 to move on to the quarterfinals of the division 5A OSAA state playoffs.

Junior Steen Fredrickson allowed only one earned run in the start, before being pulled after 4.1 innings. By pulling Fredrickson in the fifth inning it means that he can still throw up to seven innings in Friday’s quarterfinal game.

For Dallas, Logan Hately was chased after just 1.2 innings and five earned runs. Tucker Weaver came in for 4.1 innings of relief while allowing only one earned run.

Ashland’s offense opened up the scoring in the first when sophomore Aaron Scott scored the first of his three runs on a wild pitch.

In the second, the Grizzlies put up five to take control of the game. Senior Eric Carlson tripled and scored, Fredrickson hit a RBI single and Ashland had a 6-0 lead heading into the third.

After Dallas scored two in the third, Ashland responded with runs from Carlson and Scott, who scored in the fourth and fifth respectively.

Senior Tommy Hulick came in for 2.2 innings of scoreless relief, allowing only one hit and striking out three.

Next up for Ashland (21-8) is fifth ranked Sherwood (23-6) . Sherwood beat Herminston 4-0 in their own round of 16 matchup. The game will be Friday at North Mountain Park at two, only four and a half hours before the Ashland seniors will be graduating.
