On Saturday morning, 336 runners from 27 high school cross country teams crowded into Lithia Park to compete in Ashland’s forty-third annual home meet, The State of Jefferson. The competition was tough; however, The State of Jefferson is notorious for being incredibly hilly, and Ashland used their knowledge of the course to their advantage.
In the end, Varsity Girls finished second, losing only to Crater High’s 6A team. Senior Varsity boys, Ben and Sam Jackson, placed sixteenth and seventeenth and finished two seconds apart with times of 17:14 and 17:16, respectively. Finally, JV girls scored places 1-6, earning a perfect score of 15.
All in all, Ashland represented well at their home course, showing promising prospects for the 5A district and state meets.
